Tablet Or Laptop: Which One Should I Buy?

August 22, 2020 · Andrew · Leave a Comment

A question we receive in our comments and contact email is: Should I buy a tablet or laptop? We know that there are so many alternatives, prices and options between tablets and laptops on the market that it is very easy to get confused, so we have created this guide to answer all your questions.

Buy a tablet or laptop?

To answer your question about buying a tablet or laptop, we have decided to show you a list of the advantages and disadvantages of each. In this way you can make the best decision when choosing between a laptop and an electronic tablet and the best functions of each.

Tablet or Laptop ?: Benefits of a Laptop

When choosing between a tablet or laptop for college, start by looking at these benefits of laptops that you won’t find in an electronic tablet:

Easier to write. The laptop has a physical QWERTY keyboard that will allow you to type faster, more comfortably, and with greater precision than a tablet.

More viewing space. The screen of a laptop is larger than a tablet, so it will be easier to watch videos and do more tasks at the same time. As a general rule of thumb, a laptop screen is typically between 12 to 17 inches, compared to 7 to 10 inches for a tablet screen.

More connection posts. A laptop will have multiple connection ports, which will make it easy to connect gadgets you will need (such as a pen drive, portable hard drive, wireless mouse, and other devices). You can also connect devices such as SD cards, webcams, printers, microphones, and gaming devices. Also, many laptops have an HDMI port for connecting to a TV, monitor, or projector.

More capacity. College laptops offer more storage capacity than an electronic tablet. Most laptops start at 500 gigabytes (GB), compared to an average of 32GB for a tablet.

More programs available. Laptops are made to be compatible with Windows or Mac operating systems. This will allow you to run more programs than a tablet will not be able to install.

Ability to burn CD / DVD. Many laptops or laptops come with an optical disc drive for those who burn DVDs and CD-ROMs, something you won’t be able to do with a tablet.

Best performance for your money. The best laptops can be found for low prices and with better components (better processor, better battery, better RAM and better hard drive) than tablets. This offers better performance for the money you would spend on an electronic tablet.

Tablet or Laptop ?: Benefits of a tablet

Electronic tablets are not far behind and they also have benefits that you will not be able to find in laptops. Among some of the advantages we can name:

Best 32GB RAM Laptops in 2020

More portable than a laptop. Tablets are generally thinner, less heavy, and smaller than laptops, making them more portable (and more comfortable). While laptops generally weigh 3-4 kilograms, most electronic tablets weigh less than 1 kilogram.

Quicker to turn on. While laptops take longer to turn on or boot up to start using, you don’t have to wait for a tablet to turn on to start using it.

Better battery life. Most can tablets offer a run time of 10 to 12 hours, which could be twice or even three times longer than a laptop.

Perfect for reading. Because they are lighter and are shaped like a book or magazine, tablets are more conducive to reading e-books than laptops. So if you like to read, you will love having a tablet.

Touch screen. Although there are some laptops with a touchscreen, iPad tablets or Android tablets are incredibly comfortable and intuitive. If you don’t like typing with a physical keyboard and having a mouse with you, a tablet will take away these headaches.

Cheap applications. When deciding between a tablet or a laptop, you should keep in mind that although electronic tablets are no less expensive than laptops, their applications (“apps”) are very affordable compared to the software on a computer. In many cases, tablet apps are only 99 cents or even free.

They serve as cameras. An electronic tablet can be carried and used as a camera anywhere, so you can take photos wherever you go, this will be very difficult to achieve with a laptop.

Tablet or Laptop ?: Verdict

Deciding between a tablet or laptop will depend exclusively on your needs. It will all come down to your needs, budget, mobility, and comfort level.
The advantages and disadvantages mentioned in this article will help you make a better decision and have a clearer idea when choosing between buying a tablet or laptop.

As a general recommendation, follow this principle: If you want a computer or computer that helps you in your business, school or office, it is always better to buy a laptop. On the other hand, if you are looking for a device for entertainment, reading and tasks that do not involve a lot of digital writing, then your best option will be an electronic tablet.
