While the official start of summer isn’t until June 20, the warm temperatures and beautiful sunny days are already here. While temperatures haven’t yet reached their peak in the Walla Walla Valley, and school isn’t yet out for the year, we know that those days are coming soon.
In order to make sure you’re prepared for what the summer has to offer we’ve compiled our list of the best ways to prepare.
1. Get Your HVAC checked
While we all enjoy these initial 70-80 degree days in the valley there’s no doubt that the 100 degree summer days aren’t far off. In July and August especially the temperatures in Walla Walla reach scorching and that means that air conditioners are going to be working full-time. Make sure that your air conditioner is in perfect working condition before those blazing hot days arrive. While there are a handful of hvac companies in Walla Walla, we highly recommend the experts at Mill Creek Mechanical. Have them come out and service your HVAC unit to make sure you’re ready for summer heat.
2. Stock Up on Sunscreen
As school gets out for the summer and families start hitting the outdoor trails and swimming pools you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of sunscreen on hand. The stores often run low on supplies once summer truly hits and you won’t want to be scrambling around visiting 5 or 6 stores just to find what you need. Buy now and save the hassle for later.
Remember that even on cloudy days, the sun’s UV rays can be harmful and damaging to skin.
3. Load Up on Drinks and Snacks
Impromptu gatherings with family and friends become common place in the summer as everyone takes advantage of no school and longer days. Make sure that your cabinets and fridge have at least a few items on hand for these occasions. From crackers and cheeses to sodas, wine and beer you’ll want to be prepared for anyone who drops by.
If you have kids that will spending the afternoons at home you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of snacks for them too.
4. Set Up the Outdoor Spaces
From gardening and landscaping to setting up the patio furniture there is a lot to be done now that the rainy spring days are behind us. Spending time outdoors can be a wonderful way to start and end your day. Enjoy coffee with a view or invite friends over for a beautiful dinner on the patio and take advantage of the warm summer mornings and evenings.
5. Clean
If you missed the traditional spring cleaning then summer is another great time for a big purge. Look at everything that you went yet another winter without using and remove unnecessary clutter from your garage or barn or outbuildings. You’ll feel great after downsizing a bit – trust us!
Summer is a wonderful time of year and there is a lot to enjoy. Just make sure that you’re well-prepared for whatever this season might bring your way.
